Ethos, Aims & Values

Learning, Love and Laughter

Every child deserves a school where curiousity is sparked, kindness is felt and joy is part of everyday. At the heart of our school is Learning, Love and Laughter. These three words capture the culture, relationships and aspirations we want every child to experience during our time with us.

Learning - We want every child to develop a genuine love of learning and the confidence to discover what they are capable of. Through the celebration of progress as well as success we encourage every child to be curious, resillient and proud of their learning.

Love - We are a school where relationships matter. Every child should feel known, valued, respected and safe. We nurture kindness, empathy and respect, creating a strong sense of belonging. We work closely with our families and cour community becuase we know children flourish when we work together.

Laughter - Childhood should be filled with joy. We want our school to be a place where children make wonderful memories. Through play, creativity, friendship, sport, celebration and shared experiences, we make sure laughter and happiness are an important part of everyday life.

Our Toolkit for Learning, Love and Laughter is our foundation and clearly demonstrates the ethos of the school. We have used the Olympic Values as a vision for learning behaviour and as characteristics of good learners;

These were developed over a series of assemblies with the children. We regularly discuss how and why these characteristic make good learners, how they can demonstrate them in all learning opportunities and beyond in our local community.
Together Learning, Love and Laughter create a school where every child is encouraged to believe, belong and become the every best version of themselves.
This is further embedded by our Personal Development Curriculum, which illustrates how our whole school PSHE curriculum themes knits together our relational approach, Fundamental British Values, our PE curriculum and elements of RE and ICT. this is at the heart of our school and always a work in progress, being adapted to meet the needs of our children and their character.
We have been priviledged to have been part of a research project with Sheffield Hallam University and the Youth Sport Trust, exploring the impact of the Well Schools movement, of which we are proud to be a Beacon School.
