At St Breock Primary School, we value Design Technology as an important part of the children’s right to a broad and balanced curriculum. All children, from our Foundation Stage to Year Six participate in engaging and purposeful Design Technology lessons. Our DT curriculum allows the children to exercise their creativity and develop the skills, knowledge and understanding of designing and making functional products.
The children are encouraged to design, construct and evaluate their work. The level of design criteria, practical skills required, and the evaluative process used progresses as the children advance through the school. Each stage of the cycle is given equal importance and is rooted in technical knowledge and real, relevant contexts to give meaning to learning.
We want the children at St Breock School to develop their imagination, creativity and critical thinking skills to solve relevant and real-life problems in order to make finished products, that they are proud of.
We aim for our children to question and think innovatively about the world that they live in. We want them to understand the effect of products on the environment and people in order to design and develop their own finished products with a purpose and user in mind.
The children are exposed to and inspired by engineers, designers, chefs and architects to enable them to create a range of structures, mechanisms, textiles, electrical systems and food products with a real-life purpose.
We believe it is vital to nurture innovation and raise aspirations through design, and by exploring the designed and made world in which we all live in. We aim to increase the aspirations of our children through creating opportunities for them to build on practical skills for the wider world.
