 Science at St Breock

"The important thing is to never stop questioning." - Albert Einstein.

Our vision

At St Breock Primary School, we aim to equip our children with the knowledge required to use and implement science today, tomorrow and for their futures.  We hope our children will develop their scientific knowledge through weekly lessons and other exciting planned science opportunities, such as Science Weeks, assemblies, day trips and residentials.

In Key Stage One, the focus is on enabling pupils to experience and observe the world around them, often exploring the outdoors.  During their time in lower Key Stage Two, the emphasis is all around children having opportunities to broaden their scientific view of the world around them, when they are encouraged to talk, test and make links.  In Upper Key Stage Two, the focus is to allow children time to deepen and develop their understanding of a range of scientific ideas.

Our intention through school is to develop children’s understanding of scientific ideas by using different types of scientific enquiry to answer their own questions.  This includes observing changes over time, noticing patterns, grouping and classifying things, carrying out simple comparative tests and finding things out using secondary information. Much of it is done in practical, outdoors or off-site locations.

Above all, we hope our children will never stop questioning!  For more detail, please see the Science Curriculum map below.
