Geography

The study of geography is more than just memorising places on a map. It’s about understanding the complexity of our world.’ - President Barak Obama

At St Breock Primary School we strive to inspire pupils with a fascination of the world and all its inhabitants.

We treat our students as explorers in their own right. Pupils are regularly given the opportunities to question, explore and develop their understanding of the world in which they live by allowing their geographical awareness and skill to grow and blossom.

With exciting and motivating cross curricular lessons, it is our intention that geography will promote pupil’s understanding of key human and physical processes as well as their place in the world and their rights and responsibilities to other cultures, communities and the environment, both locally and globally.

Within KS1 children begin to enhance their knowledge of the world whilst learning about the geography of their local environment, Cornwall and the United Kingdom.

In KS2 children begin to look at human and physical aspects while they carry out case studies within Europe and beyond.  In upper KS2 children will also look at our responsibility to the world and how we can make it a greener, more sustainable place.

Within all year groups pupils will celebrate Cornwall and what it means to be a child growing up in a rural environment. They will consistently use this as a basis to learn about and compare other countries and cultures.

With strong practical and theory skills we hope that pupils will leave St Breock Primary School with a strong foundation upon which to explore geography at a higher level and continue to have a fascination for the world and those who call her home. Please see our Geography Curriculum Map below to see this in more detail.
