Intent

At St Breock, French is an integral part of a broad and balanced curriculum. The curriculum is ambitious and inclusive, ensuring all pupils develop curiosity, language skills and confidence in communication. Through high‑quality teaching, pupils gain the knowledge and skills to understand and use French effectively while developing an awareness of the wider world beyond the United Kingdom.

 We aim to:
• Engage, inspire and challenge pupils, developing proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing in French
• Enable pupils to understand and communicate in French, using appropriate vocabulary, phonics and grammatical structures
• Introduce a wide range of themes, songs, rhymes and real-life contexts to support language learning
• Develop pupils’ cultural understanding of France and the wider French‑speaking world
• Ensure pupils confidently use subject-specific French vocabulary to express themselves and interact with others
