Welcome

Welcome to St Breock Nursery, Wadebridge, Cornwall

St Breock (Beacons) Nursery serves the St Breock area of Wadebridge and its surrounding communities including Bodieve, Burlawn, Edmonton, Egloshayle, Sladesbridge and Whitecross.

"Every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to fulfil their potential. Children develop quickly in the early years and a child’s experiences between birth and age five have a major impact on their future life chances." (EYFS statutory framework, March 2021)

We provide expert school-based childcare for children aged 3 to 4 years in a caring and stimulating environment. Specifically designed for children aged 3 to 4 years, Beacons nursery class helps bridge the gap between pre-school and Reception Class, providing the very best of starts to your child’s learning journey.

Why choose our Wadebridge school-based Pre-School?

We base our ambitious curriculum on child initiated learning supported with adult intervention to support each individual child's learning and development. Everything is planned to develop and support the essential social and learning skills children need when entering more formal learning at a later stage in school. Our integrated nursery class focuses on:

  • Warm, nurturing relationships – caring staff who build strong bonds with children and make them feel safe, secure, and valued
  • High-quality learning through play – a stimulating environment with meaningful activities that support development, language, and curiosity
  • Good communication and trust – clear, regular updates and a sense that staff listen to and work in partnership with families
  • School Readiness: A curriculum planned to ensure a smooth transition into Reception Class

Learning, Love and Laughter is our school motto and is at the core of everything we do. We have developed a Toolkit for Learning, Love and Laughter, which uses the Olympic Values of; determination, respect, inspiration, courage, excellence, friendship and equality as characteristics of a good learner. We ensure the children are able to use this as a language for learning, which builds resilience and independence.

We offer an engaging open plan classroom which supports all areas of the Early years curriculum with a cosy book corner for lots of story telling, sand and water play exploration, art and crafts area, home corner and role play opportunities. As well as a large range of small world and construction resources for the children to choose from developing their creative imaginations. A large outdoor area which is fully enclosed and partially covered to allow access whatever the weather, ensuring that all children get the opportunities for outdoor learning during their sessions at Beacons. We also have "The wild woods" enhancing our outdoor learning opportunities through a forest school inspired curriculum.
